Ways to Release Souls from Purgatory

It is important that we pray for the Souls in Purgatory. The Month of November is dedicated to the Souls in Purgatory. They cannot help themselves, those days ended when they died. They can intercede for us but not themselves. We can intercede for them and pray for ourselves. It is written in the bible many times which is one reason the church requires we pray for the poor souls and we have a Requiem Mass before we bury them.

There are many ways of quickening the release of the Holy Souls. Below are just a few suggestions:

MASSES - Have Masses said for them. The Gregorian Masses are extremely powerful but all Masses dedicated to them will help. Have a Novena or Perpetual enrollment of Masses for your loved one on their birthday, anniversary of their death, All Souls Day, major Holy Days or days significant to them. Also, offer your Mass & Communion for them.

STATIONS OF THE CROSS / WAYS OF THE CROSS - This can be done in a church which is ideal but you can go through the stations at home or anywhere.  There is no set formula for doing them. You can go through them in a quick 15 minutes or take 30 minutes or more and really meditate and pray on each station. Normally a sign of the cross, an OF, HM, GB, requiem prayer, a short prayer & meditation. They should be walked if possible. Our Lady walked the Stations of the Cross every day after Her Son ascended into Heaven.

ROSARY - Pray a rosary for them or a 54 Day Rosary Novena for them.

REQUIEM PRAYER - Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon them. May the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen. Pray 1,000 times

The bottom line - pray for your loved ones and friends who have passed away. They have no one but you to hasten them into Heaven. They will intercede constantly until you join them. Prayer is never wasted. If your loved one is already in Heaven then God will apply the graces to a soul in need and they will pray for you in return. The souls in Purgatory know who and when someone is praying for them.

Pray daily for Souls in Purgatory. Remember the average souls spends 40 Earth years in suffering. Michelangelo was in Purgatory for 1,000 years. How many years will you atone for your sins? Do you have some to pray for your soul?
